The Olden Days

// March 5th, 2012 // No Comments » // A Time Gone By

This is a photograph of my grandmother taken by my father.  I’ve written in depth about it on my personal blog, but I thought I’d share it here as well because one of the things that I love about it are all the details of her (vintage) kitchen.

And, really, what’s not to love? It was a thrifty (think Cool Whip containers as tupperware), utilitarian time where the items that functioned and served a purpose also served as decor.  Hence, the pots hanging from the walls.  Her biscuit cutter is a juice glass.  The chenille robe, her breakfast uniform. Products like Coca-Cola, Crisco and Aluminum Foil remain staples that you can find in most (Southern) kitchens today.

It is all the details in this picture that tell me so much about who my grandmother was that I adore.  It has been really fun for me to look at this photograph with my “vintage eyes” on and it’s got me thinking I should make highlighting old photographs of a time gone by a recurring feature on this blog.
